After a thrilling eight races on the first World Pool day on British soil in 2023, CHALDEAN’s G1 2000 Guineas win was chosen as the Moment of the Day.

Newmarket, hosting the first UK Classic of the season, was hit by persistent rain throughout the day, but that didn’t dampen the celebrations for connections of the Frankel colt, including rider Frankie Dettori who was competing in his final ever 2000 Guineas. Chaldean raced prominently under World Pool ambassador Dettori and displayed both an impressive turn of foot and steely determination to fend off Hi Royal (2nd) and Royal Scotsman (3rd).

A combination of the dominant performance and the emotion spilling out from Dettori on his final ever ride in the race meant Chaldean’s win had to be selected as the World Pool Moment of the Day.

Winning groom, Chetan Singh, collected the cheque for £4,000 (approx. HK$40,000) and will also enter the running to win a VIP trip to Hong Kong.

A delighted Singh, said: “I’m feeling very happy today. This is the first time I’ve led up a horse in the 2000 Guineas, so it’s amazing to win it. It feels very special.

He’s a very quiet horse in his box. He’s a Frankel colt, a very nice horse, but not a naughty horse – he’s pony-like! I love him and I have lots of trust in him. I led him up in the Newbury race, the day that Frankie fell off, so today is a totally different feeling. Being the groom of the winner for Frankie’s last 2000 Guineas feels very special too.

“I’m very grateful to World Pool offering this prize. Winning £4,000 is very special and I feel very lucky.”

Chetan Singh will be joined by 24 other global World Pool Moment of the Day winners, each of whom will be awarded with HK$40,000, with one being selected as the Moment of the Year winner later this season.

The next World Pool day, with two races being globally commingled, is at Newbury for Lockinge Day on Saturday 20th May.
