On a pulsating day of high-class action, including four G1 contests, picking a World Pool Moment of the Day was tricky.
Jockey Richard Fourie starred with a fabulous four-timer, while South African-born Hong Kong-based rider Lyle Hewitson returned to his home country to land the finale.
However, it was an electric performance from SANDRINGHAM SUMMIT in the aptly named G1 @WorldPool Moment Of The Day Champion Stakes that stood out the most.
Under a cool ride from Calvin Habib, the Gimmethegreenlight two-year-old had ground to make up rounding the home turn but showed an impressive turn of foot to quickly gather in his opponents and score by over two lengths.
When interviewed on his return to Johannesburg, Daniel said “This is life changing for me, because I have worked with horses for a long time, but this is the first time I have won this amount of money. I will use half of the money to finish building my house and the other half I will share with my mother and father because my father is out of work.”
In the past Daniel has looked after Mill Queen who ran second in a Grade 1, Flying First Class who is a 9-time-winner and Factory Fifty who won 6 races, but rates Sandringham Summit as the best of them all.
Daniel will receive R100,000 as a result and will now also have a chance to win a trip to Hong Kong if judged to be World Pool Moment of the Year.
