World Pool Moment Of The Day

Goodwood Cup Day, Glorious Goodwood

As the saying goes, everybody loves a grey. And that couldn’t be more accurate than with veteran sprinter and Goodwood lover Lord Riddiford. The seven-year-old was winning at the track for the third time in his 46th race under rules, and it’s fair to say that his groom, Willie Dwan, has done a remarkable job with him.

Willie receives a bottle of champagne, £1,000 and entry into the £34,000 World Pool Moment of the Year prize for his efforts, and the decision wasn’t a straightforward one to reach with plenty of other contenders worthy of the prize.

Most notably, Stradivarius’s gallant effort in defeat to Kyprios in the Goodwood Cup, but it’s likely we’ll be lucky enough to see the eight-year-old at another World Pool event at York, so he may yet bow out on a high.

It takes a special training performance to win back-to-back handicaps at a meeting like Goodwood and that’s exactly what John Quinn has done with Lord Riddiford. It remains to be seen where we will see this sprinter next, but we can only hope it’s at another World Pool event.

Nick Luck confirms LORD RIDDIFORD as the World Pool Moment of the Day winner on Day 1 at Glorious Goodwood 2022.
