In the opening Group race of York’s Ebor Festival there was a big win for the Eve Johnson Houghton team when INDIAN RUN emerged victorious in the G3 Acomb Stakes to the delight of watching connections, who include England International cricketer Jonny Bairstow.
The son of Sioux Nation was sent off as one of the outsiders in the six-runner field, but travelled up strongly on the outside and showed a smart turn of foot to quicken clear under rider Danny Tudhope.
In the International Stakes, recent Royal Ascot World Pool Moment of the Day winner, Mostahdaf, ended the unbeaten run of Paddington, Aidan O’Brien’s superstar three-year-old, but it was Indian Run’s success that was chosen as the World Pool Moment of the Day.
Winning trainer Eve Johnson Houghton collected the £4,000 prize on behalf of Indian Run’s groom Alby Berony, and she said: “Alby is a star man. He was a trainer in Pakistan and he comes over and works for me. He goes home for two or three months in the winter and he comes back every summer.
“He’s the best leader up of a horse, he’s just Mr Calm, nothing fazes him. His English isn’t great, but he speaks horse and that’s the most important thing. He’s an amazing team member and this could not go to a better man.”
Berony now also has the chance to win a trip to Hong Kong next year if Indian Run is chosen as the World Pool Moment of the Year.
