World Pool Moment Of The Day

Oaks Day, Epsom

Epsom was at its glorious best for the first day of the second World Pool meeting of the 2022 UK season as blue skies and a packed crowd greeted the Surrey Downs track.

The Oaks was the highlight on Friday, and it was a race that certainly delivered with Tuesday under Ryan Moore just edging out the hot favourite Emily Upjohn and Frankie Dettori in a pulsating finish. The victory was a remarkable 41st British Classic for trainer Aidan O’Brien and his filly’s nail-biting victory capped off a brilliant day that saw World Pool betting turnover reach HK$279.9million across the seven-race card.

The second World Pool raceday of the season also saw the return of the World Pool Moment of the Day where an extraordinary performance is rubberstamped with £1,000 to the horse’s groom, a bottle of champagne to connections, as well as entry to the £34,000 World Pool Moment of the Year.

On a day of many brilliant performances, the RacingTV team, headed by Nick Luck, had a tricky decision to make, but after much deliberation the World Pool Moment of the Day went to Bowman, who won the concluding 1400m handicap in impressive fashion for local trainer Laura Mongan at huge odds.

On receiving the award, Mongan was quick to heap praise on Bowman’s groom Sydney as well as the rest of her team: “I couldn’t ask for better staff if I tried. The girls at home do the best job, so it’s all to them. I really appreciate everything World Pool have done, it’s amazing.”

Tallulah Lewis, Head of International Partnerships, UK Tote, speaks with Charlie Appleby, trainer of COROEBUS on being selected as the Moment of the Day winner on 2000 Guineas Day.
