World Pool Moment Of The Day

Platinum Jubilee Stakes Day, Royal Ascot

The final day of Royal Ascot 2022 was filled with many surprises. Hurricane Lane was beaten on his reappearance in the Hardwicke Stakes, before Naval Crown made amends for Godolphin returning the winner of the Platinum Jubilee at huge odds of 56.55 on the World Pool.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the lot came in the first race when debutant Holloway Boy won the Chesham Stakes for Karl Burke, after being given a wonderfully calm ride by Danny Tudhope. The son of Ulysses won at World Pool odds of 41.

It was a performance deemed worthy of being named the World Pool Moment of the Day, with a bottle of champagne and £1,000 pounds going to the winning groom Liisi Hallik.

Collecting the prize on behalf of Liisi, Ascot’s Director of Racing and Public Affairs, Nick Smith, said: “What an amazing performance!

“This horse had never run before and turns up at Royal Ascot and wins the Chesham. It has to be down to Liisi’s amazing skill and love for the horse, so well done Liisi.”

Liisi and the wider Karl Burke team now also gain entry into the £34,000 World Pool Moment of the Year Award, which will be presented on British Champions Day at Ascot in October.

Nick Smith, Director of Racing and Public Affairs at Ascot, accepts the World Pool Moment of the Day prize on the behalf of Liisi Hallik, groom of Chesham Stakes winner HOLLOWAY BOY.
