Queen Anne Stakes Day

There was much anticipation as World Pool returned for its sixth year at Royal Ascot, and the racing did not disappoint.

The G1 Queen Anne Stakes kicked off proceedings, where World Pool Jockeys’ Championship leader, Silvestre de Sousa, steered well-backed Charyn to his first Group 1 win.

There was a lot of excitement surrounding Australian raider, Asfoora, in the G1 King Charles III Stakes, and it was well-founded as Oisin Murphy guided Australia to its sixth winner of the race, fending off market-leader Big Evs and the late-challenging Regional.

The feature race of Day One was the G1 St James's Palace Stakes, where Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Rosallion prevailed over all, including a disappointing Notable Speech who finished in a distant seventh.

However, it was the second race, the G2 Coventry Stakes, which saw the Brian Meehan-trained RASHABAR get his nose in front in emphatic style, that was chosen as the World Pool Moment of the Day.

It was a performance that marked a significant milestone for jockey Billy Loughnane, with Rashabar being his first Royal Ascot winner, whilst also moving the young rider to the top of the World Pool Jockeys’ Championship table due to the horse’s remarkable record-breaking World Pool win dividend of 129.90 (v 80/1 SP).

Collecting the prize on behalf of the horse’s groom, Jasa Ram, at Royal Ascot, was assistant trainer, Jessica Daw, who reflected on the performance and what it meant to the whole team to receive recognition from World Pool: “The whole team are incredibly proud of the horse.

Rashabar is a horse that we have always liked, he has always worked incredibly well. The form from his first two races was good, and we thought he was a big price but to come here and do that is incredible!”

“He came here with all the right conditions; he had the right draw and the right jockey – clearly! So we are not necessarily surprised of this performance.

“Jasa (Ram) works incredibly hard, as do all of the team at home and we wouldn't be here today without the grooms that do it at home.

“There will be a big party later on today – for sure!”

Ram now has the chance to win a VIP trip to Hong Kong if Rashabar’s victory is chosen as the World Pool Moment of the Year.

A deserved £4,000 World Pool Moment of the Day win with RASHABAR for the groom Jasa Ram.
