Friday 26 July 2024 – World Pool will be in operation across six meetings from Saturday 27 July to Thursday 1 August, with the globally commingled pools run and powered by the Hong Kong Jockey Club returning to the UK, South Africa and Germany.

Ascot’s King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day marks the beginning of the busy period, with a full card of eight World Pool races, featuring the Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes which produced one of the great races of last season, as Hukum got the better of Westover in a thrilling finish.

Seven bet types – Win, Place, Quinella, Quinella Place (Swinger), Forecast (Exacta), Tierce (Trifecta) and Treble (pick the winner in three selected races) – will be available on the Ascot card to global punters from 28 different countries.

On Sunday 28, World Pool turns its attention to a dual raceday, with a full card of races from South Africa for Greyville’s Champions Cup Day, in which World Pool will continue to be the title sponsor of the meeting, including the World Pool Gold Cup. At the same time the global pools will also return to Germany, debuting at Munich Racecourse with two races on Grosser Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen Day.

Five bet types – Win, Place, Quinella, Quinella Place (Swinger) and Forecast (Exacta) – will be offered at Greyville, while in addition the Tierce (Trifecta) will also be available to punters on the action from Munich.

World Pool will then make a swift return to the UK, for the first three days of the Goodwood Festival, beginning with Goodwood Cup Day on Tuesday 30 July, and followed by Sussex Stakes Day (Wednesday 31 July) and Nassau Stakes Day (Thursday 1 August).

Last year, the three days at Goodwood produced some excellent performances, with Quickthorn’s win in the Goodwood Cup chosen as the World Pool Moment of the Day on the opening Tuesday, while Big Evs’ Molecomb Stakes win and Novus’ handicap triumph were fellow winners on the following two days.

The grooms of Quickthorn, Big Evs and Novus each received a £4,000 prize and once again there will be three Moments of the Day chosen at Goodwood, following a Moment of the Day on King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day at Ascot and on Champions Cup Day from Greyville.

All racedays bar Grosser Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen Day were part of the World Pool roster in 2023, with Champions Cup Day seeing the highest turnover of HK$292.2m from all World Pool bet types, followed by the HK$287.3m accumulated from World Pool bet types taken on King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day.

Sam Nati, Head of Commingling at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, said: “We’re excited to be back at Ascot on Saturday to kickstart one of our busiest periods of World Pool activity, with six meetings upcoming in the next week from the UK, South Africa and Germany.

“The King George is usually one of the races of the season in the UK, while both Champions Cup Day and Goodwood feature wonderfully competitive racing that our global customers are sure to enjoy.

“It’s also a pleasure to be adding our first races from Munich Racecourse to the World Pool roster, and we look forward to bringing two races on Grosser Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen Day to a global audience.”
