Thursday 17th October 2024 – World Pool returns to action with 12 races this Saturday – five races from King Charles III Stakes Day at Randwick in Sydney as well as the world’s richest mile and a half handicap, the Caulfield Cup, in Melbourne – while all six races on British Champions Day from Ascot in the UK will also be commingled.

The world’s richest race on turf, the AUD$20 million The TAB Everest (1200m), carries Group 1 status for the first time, while the Randwick card also features the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes (1600m), the Group 3 Sydney Stakes (1200m), Group 3 Silver Eagle (1300m) and the World Pool Handicap (1400m).

This year marks the second time World Pool has been active on King Charles III Stakes Day, joining the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) from Melbourne, which also made its World Pool debut in 2023.

Punters from over 28 countries will be able to bet on the six contests, with five World Pool bet types – Win, Place, Quinella, Quinella Place (Duet), Tierce (Trifecta) – available.

Joining the fixtures from Randwick and Caulfield will be all races on the British Champions Day card from Ascot in the UK, meaning this will be only the second time ever that World Pool has been in operation across three race meeting on the same day, following on from when Dubai World Cup Day, Tancred Stakes Day and Australian Cup Day were all commingled on 30th March this year.

All six races on Ascot’s card, including four Group 1 races, will be commingled by World Pool and seven World Pool bet types – Win, Place, Quinella, Quinella Place (Swinger), Tierce (Trifecta), Forecast (Exacta), Treble – will be available to global punters.

Ascot’s final Flat meeting will also see the inaugural champion of the World Pool UK & Ireland Jockeys’ Championship decided following the final race, the Balmoral Handicap (1200m).

The winning rider will be awarded £50,000 to be given to a nominated charity of their choice and a representative from their named charity will be present at Ascot to accept the donation.

Michael Fitzsimons, Executive Director, Wagering Products at the HKJC, said: “We’re looking forward to being in operation once again on King Charles III Stakes Day from Randwick, with a fascinating card including the hugely valuable The Everest, as well as welcoming back the Caulfield Cup to our roster of races.

“With the continued addition of new racedays, we continue to strengthen our presence in Australia, and it’s great to see a three-fixture World Pool day for only the second time, with racing from the UK at Ascot joining our Australian action.

“At Ascot we look forward to seeing the first World Pool Jockeys’ Champion crowned after what has been a thrilling new challenge in UK & Ireland this season. It also marks the beginning of a new charitable initiative, with the £50,000 prize awarded to the winner going to a charity of the winning rider’s choice, in line with World Pool and the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s commitment to giving back to local communities.”
